“Go Gray in May” refers to Brain Tumor Awareness Month, and once again, HG Logistics LLC is acknowledging the importance of spreading awareness and raising support for those affected by brain tumors. It is in May every year that the diagnosis of brain tumors is brought to the forefront first, to inform people about brain tumors, secondly, to offer support to the patients and families affected, and thirdly, to advocate for research and treatment. Gray is the symbol representing the gray matter of the brain. By wearing gray and posting gray ribbons you can encourage others to make donations and spread the need to further research and develop treatment options. One of the most significant movements of Go Gray in May is that it offers a platform for sharing stories and connecting with others that are facing the same challenges, allowing many to benefit from a community of supporters that understands and empathizes with what they are going through.
As reported in the past, Logan Heller, son of our Director of Operations, Duke Heller, is HG Logistics LLC brain tumor cancer survivor. Logan has been battling this disease since November 2015 when he was diagnosed with JPA (Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma) tumor. Logan endured craniotomy surgery and 28 sessions of radiation treatments. Due to the fact that part of his tumor is embedded in his brain stem and is inoperable, Logan has been treated with ongoing chemotherapy drugs. This treatment plan has been successful in shrinking the tumor and maintaining it to a size of 2 cm. Logan is currently being weaned off one of the drugs and so far, everything is looking positive. Through this entire process, Logan has been fortunate to suffer few side effects, the only noticeable one being his hair turned curly.
Logan has never let his tumor stop him from living life to its fullest. This past year he continued working full time at Meijer, picked up the sport of pickleball, and joined a bowling team holding a 200 average. Logan is a firm believer in staying fit both mentally by keeping a positive attitude on life and physically by working out every day. And of course, we can’t forget to mention his favorite pastime–hanging with his cat, Pablo.
